Welcome Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Devon Westhill
Hello everyone,
We’re excited to welcome Devon Westhill to the OneUDSA family as the new Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights. Deputy Assistant Secretary Westhill was sworn in yesterday and stands ready to serve USDA’s customers and employees with the fairness, transparency, objectivity, and consistency they deserve.
The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (OASCR) is essential for us to fulfill our motto to “Do Right and Feed Everyone.” OASCR provides leadership and direction for the fair and equitable treatment of all USDA customers and employees while ensuring the delivery of quality programs and enforcement of civil rights.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Westhill comes to USDA after serving as the Deputy Director of the Office of Public Liaison at the United States Department of Labor (DOL) where he was in charge of outreach to legal and policy organizations, think tanks, and the administrative law scholar community.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Westhill also served as liaison to the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and chairman of the DOL HBCU working group. His career includes service in all three branches of the government and the United States Navy, as well as work in both private law practice and the nonprofit sector.
With his unique personal background, significant leadership expertise, and broad professional experience, Deputy Assistant Secretary Westhill will be an excellent leader in the department’s effort to “Do Right and Feed Everyone.”
Sincerely,
Secretary Sonny
