More than 41 million people in the United States speak Spanish at home, and Spanish is the most spoken language after English in the country. Cooperative Extension across the nation recognizes the importance of providing resources in Spanish to better serve Hispanic communities and people.

Through its Spanish language resources, Cooperative Extension, which is funded in part by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), is empowering people to make informed decisions about their nutrition and health, their farm operations, the environment and many other areas.

Extension Spanish Language Resource Highlights:

  • University of California Extension’s bilingual educators bring comprehensive nutrition education classes in Spanish to schools, preschools, after-school programs, churches and other partners through its Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.
  • At Cornell University, the Produce Safety Alliance team is increasing high-quality produce safety training and Extension outreach to Spanish-language growers and communities.
  • University of Georgia Extension offers SuperCrew, a comprehensive professional training for people in the landscaping business. All training is available in Spanish and includes discussion questions and multiple-choice exams as well.
  • ¡Salir Adelante!, an Iowa State Extension effort, is helping Spanish-speaking parents and their middle school children pursue their educational and career goals.
  • Grupo de Mujeres, a Kentucky State University Extension effort, offers life skills development, financial education and empowerment for Spanish-speaking women and their families.
