Bailey’s Elementary School Students Bring Holiday Cheer

“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!” Talented fifth graders from Bailey’s Elementary School in Falls Church, VA caroled to Forest Service employees in the Yates Building at the Chief’s annual Open House on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010. The students cheerfully sang a holiday mix of carols including Let It Snow, Here We Come A-Wassailing and a compilation medley.

The fifth graders visited each floor spreading holiday cheer by performing 15-minute song sets for employees. The performances lead to a grand finale on the fourth floor where most employees were gathered enjoying holiday food and socializing at the Chief’s Open House. After the students were given a break, Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell expressed his deep appreciation for their attendance and the ongoing partnership with the school. Along with Business Operations Program Manager Jacqueline Emanuel, the chief distributed goody bags to the children as a reward for bringing more joy to the holidays.

The singing group, proudly called The Whatcha-Mah-Call-Its, meets after school as a part of an advanced after school program. The students come from a variety of backgrounds with strong interest in music.

Bailey’s Elementary School is one of six partnership schools working with Sustainable Operations to enhance children’s understanding of the environment and natural resource conservation. The school has been partnering with the Forest Service for more than 10 years.
