USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS) will kick off its 50th anniversary celebration with a special session at the Agricultural Outlook Forum this month. The session will highlight ERS’ role as a resource for policymakers and for those advancing debates in the areas of food economics, rural development and natural resources, and markets and trade. In addition, the expert panel will share their thoughts on what questions will shape ERS research in the years to come.
Speakers include: Keith Collins, USDA Chief Economist 1994-2008; Eileen Kennedy, Dean, Friedman School of Nutrition Science Policy, Tufts University; Jon Scholl, President, American Farmland Trust; Gary Blumenthal, President and CEO, World Perspectives, Inc.; and Katherine Smith, Administrator, USDA Economic Research Service. John E. Lee, Jr., Former Administrator, USDA Economic Research Service (1982-93) will moderate the session.
The Economic Research Service was established on April 3, 1961, by Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman. The ERS 50th Anniversary Committee is planning several events to take place throughout the year.
