It was all hands on deck at the 3rd Annual Faith, Families & Schools Conference held in Cromwell, Connecticut. I was extremely pleased to see many of my state colleagues working together in such an important effort. I participated as the keynote speaker and was introduced by George A. Coleman, Deputy Commissioner Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). Working together for Student Success was the theme throughout conference. Members of numerous organizations set up exhibits and had the opportunity to listen to our FNS message.
I was encouraged to see all the organizations present develop a common vision building partnership to serve our children and families. All of us share the responsibility to educate and teach our children nutrition education. We are going to make sure our children are physically healthy and ready to learn in order to ensure their success. Everybody received my comments with enthusiasm and acceptance. After my presentation, I was able to visit the agencies’ display booths. They showcased their education initiatives and successes in Connecticut. In addition, many workshops were offered to all the conference participants; Community Involvement in Education, Real Talk about Teen Pregnancy, Community –based Mentoring Programs, Faith-based/Community Organizations and Their Positive Impact on the Lives of Children And Their Families, and many more.
My colleagues made me proud to be part of Connecticut’s effort to help our communities grow healthy, educated and successful children. All hands on deck for a healthier US.
