Statement by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on the Nomination of Adrienne Wojciechowski to Serve as Assistant Secretary of Congressional Relations

Published:

WASHINGTON, July 27, 2021 — Today, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Adrienne Wojciechowski as Assistant Secretary of Congressional Relations at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Most recently, Wojciechowski served as a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration where she managed a portfolio of more than $5 billion in spending, serving as the lead advisor on farm production, conservation, climate change, marketing, education, and other programs. Wojciechowski helped lead efforts to conduct bipartisan and bicameral negotiations in support of Senate priorities in final spending bills and helped secure funding for new initiatives. Through her work on the committee, she collaborated with food and agriculture constituencies to assess budget and policy views to formulate legislation. Previously, she served as Senior Policy Advisor for Agriculture, Environment, and Energy to Senator Patrick Leahy (VT). Wojciechowski was the principal advisor for the Senator and Chairman on matters related to agriculture, environment, energy, climate change, and forestry. Prior to her work in Senator Leahy’s office, Wojciechowski served as a professional staff member on the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

Wojciechowski has a long track record of working at the federal level to advocate for agriculture, conservation and climate efforts. Her former legislative experience and record on top issues of concern to USDA make her uniquely positioned for this role.

“Adrienne has a deep-rooted and impressive career working on matters related to agriculture, conservation, and climate change, particularly in a bipartisan manner in the United States Senate,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “As a sustainability champion and an expert on legislation, we are fortunate to add her as a leader at USDA as we continue to advance opportunities to build back better and invest in our communities, our infrastructure, our food systems, and our families.”

Prior to serving in government, Wojciechowski worked as a Government Relations Associate at the Nature Conservancy in Arlington, VA. In 2018, she was awarded the Champion of Sustainability by the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition.

Wojciechowski is a native Marylander and a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.
