Published:
March 13, 2019

National Nutrition Month® is a great time to focus on your health goals! To lend support along the way, MyPlate is here with our latest initiative – Start Simple with MyPlate.

Today, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue launched the Start Simple with MyPlate initiative with a new video emphasizing the importance of good nutrition.

This initiative is about focusing on simple ways to improve your food choices from each of the five MyPlate food groups. By visiting the Start Simple with MyPlate page, you’ll find quick and easy tips to take on healthy eating one-step at a time. Sometimes the easiest way to eat healthier is to just try something new. The tips will be updated seasonally to provide healthy eating inspiration all year long – so check back regularly!

We also have some new resources, including a Start Simple with MyPlate tip sheet, MyPlate plan menu template and the Start Simple with MyPlate toolkit for professionals.

  • The Start Simple with MyPlate tip sheet is the latest resource in the MyPlate tip series, featuring simple tips for each of the five MyPlate food groups.
  • The MyPlate plan menu template (PDF, 498 KB) helps record and track what you eat and drink during the day from each of the five MyPlate food groups. This resource can be used alone or along with the MyPlate plan tool.
    • Not familiar with the MyPlate plan? The MyPlate plan is a personal and interactive tool to help you learn about your food group targets. Based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the MyPlate plan is designed to help Americans figure out what and how much to eat within their personalized calorie allowance.
  • Help us spread the word about our latest initiative with the Start Simple with MyPlate toolkit for professionals. This comprehensive online toolkit features promotion ideas, sample social media, a tip library, graphics and more.
