Rural Cooperative Development Grant Program

This program provides funds to individuals and businesses to start, expand or improve rural cooperatives and other mutually owned businesses through Cooperative Development Centers.

Rural Development (RD)

Grant: Awards up to $200,000; 25% matching funds required, but only 5% matching required for Native American tribally controlled colleges and universities that were granted land-grant status under an Act of Congress in 1994

Nonprofit corporations and institutions of higher education Visit

 

Funds can be used for developing and operating a Rural Cooperative Development Center. The following are examples of work the Centers can do:

  • Conducting feasibility studies
  • Developing business plans
  • Providing leadership and operational improvement training
  • Facilitating strategic planning

 

  • Nonprofit corporations and institutions of higher education
  • Public bodies, for-profit businesses, and individuals are NOT eligible

A Center can be in any area, but the individuals and business assisted must be located in an eligible rural area. Contact your local RD office for details.
