In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we want to share valuable information about Federal relief efforts and resources to help those impacted in the Northeast. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is coordinating with States and partner organizations to provide disaster nutrition assistance to individuals in 14 states affected by Hurricane Sandy.

To aid those impacted by Hurricane Sandy, our Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has provided USDA foods to state agencies for distribution to shelters and other mass feeding sites. Depending on the state, FNS has approved waivers that allow state agencies to provide replacement benefits to affected SNAP recipients and extend the time SNAP recipients have to report loss of food purchased with their benefits. For additional information on the assistance provided by FNS, please click here. Other USDA agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service and USDA Rural Development are also providing assistance.

Please visit www.usa.gov/sandy for the latest Hurricane Sandy Response information and resources available from government agencies, including how to apply with the FEMA for disaster assistance.
