Congratulations were in order for fourteen Cache Valley families in Utah who have a place to call their own after building their own homes through the Self Help Program (MSHP) sponsored by USDA Rural Development.   Neighborhood Nonprofit Housing Corporation in Logan runs the program that helps put limited income families in affordable homes through government supported mortgage loans and sweat equity.

Congressman Rob Bishop was the keynote speaker at the ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday, wishing the families the best and thanking them for all they are doing.

USDA Rural Development Utah State Director, Dave Conine followed by saying, “Self Help housing is one of our best programs, Utah builds 10 percent of the Self Help Housing nationwide.  A little over 1,000 homes have been built since beginning the program in Utah.  This program is determined at the local level, approved locally, and made to fit the local needs through cooperation; an excellent model.”  Conine concluded by congratulating the participants for their time and efforts, and a job well done.

NNHC Executive Director, Kim Datwyler said to participants, “You are my hero’s, you have built 14 beautiful, amazing homes and some of you didn’t know a thing about construction.  You have shown everyone that you can do anything you set your mind to do.”

Monday’s event marked the completion of 139 homes in Nibley, with 78 more homes planned for the area. To learn more about how USDA housing programs can help your family click here.
