USDA Biofuels Meeting in Virginia Helps Provide Solutions

Published:
November 5, 2010

Biofuel stakeholders and agricultural leaders participated in Virginia’s Biofuels Forum on November 4th. The forum was held at the Virginia Farm Bureau Building located in Goochland.

Many topics were discussed pertaining to the biofuels goals of the Renewable Fuels Standard and its objective of producing 36 billion gallons of renewable transportation fuel per year by 2022. Both production and utilization obstacles were discussed by the group as they analyzed in detail, the USDA Biofuels Strategic Production Report released June 23, 2010. Over 30 key points were obtained from the meeting and will be submitted to the USDA National Office for consideration.

Virginia’s role and its key resources were also discussed. With the Commonwealth having a large amount of forest land available, the state could key off of this rural resource and have the potential to produce additional transportation fuels in the future.
