USDA Rural Development agency celebrated National Home Ownership month in June by presenting a ceremonial key to new home-owner Valerie Hunsdon. Ms. Hunsdon, a single parent of one child, accepted the key on the grounds of her new home in Crown Point, NY.

Through hard work, perseverance, and a direct loan through Rural Development’s Single Family Housing Program, Ms. Hunsdon was able to turn her dream of home ownership into a reality.

“Helping deserving individuals like Valerie demonstrates the positive impact USDA’s home loan program has on the lives of rural New Yorkers,” said Jill Harvey, State Director of USDA Rural Development in New York. “As an agency, we are committed to keeping the dream of home ownership alive.”

The newly constructed home includes numerous accessibility features, including a handicap accessible kitchen and pocket doors.

“Like many people, I’ve encountered financial difficulties due to my medical condition and USDA’s direct home loan program was perfect for me,” Ms. Hunsdon said. “Thanks to the staff’s helpfulness, my son and I now have a home of our own.”
