The USDA has a wealth of organic data for producers, processors, consumers, and researchers. We provide domestic and international price reporting, economic analyses, census data, and other information on organic production and marketing.
Data and Price Information
The Organic Integrity Database, managed by the Agricultural Marketing Service's National Organic Program, lists certified organic farms, ranches, and food handlers in the US and around the world. Historical annual lists of certified organic operations and monthly snapshots of the full data set are available for download from the data history.
The Organic Production Surveys, conducted by the National Agricultural Statistics Service, provide acreage, production, and sales data for a variety of organic crop and livestock commodities plus organic marketing and agricultural practices. NASS' summary presentation on the 2015 Organic Survey (PDF) for the 2015 Organic Survey provides highlights and useful infographics.
The Economic Research Service provides a wide variety of economic information about organic products, including organic commodities, access trends, historical price data, certified organic farmland acreage, and comparisons of production cost versus revenue.
The Market News Service from the Agricultural Marketing Service provides reports on prices, volume, quality, condition, and other market data on farm products in specific markets and marketing areas, both domestic and international. Reported commodities include fruits, vegetables, livestock, poultry, grain, dairy, cotton, tobacco, and specialty crops.
The Foreign Agricultural Service provides trade data and analysis on global markets for organic products.
Local and Regional Programs
USDA's Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Initiative has information about marketing to local and regional food systems, USDA programs, and other tools.
The Food and Nutrition Service's Farm to School Program connects schools (K-12) with regional or local producers in order to serve nutritious, healthy meals using locally sourced foods.
